Ways of seeing
The workshops are designed to challenge your ways of seeing, develop your photographic visual language, and encourage you to explore photographic techniques of storytelling, supported through a series of lectures, workshops and in the field 1 to 1 feedback. They will all be delivered in an informal and engaging manner. Both Lewis and Ian have a wealth of knowledge of educating photographers as well as both having successful careers as photographers.
Ian Atkinson
Ian has been an advertising photographer for over 25 years working with some of the worlds leading brands. He has also had a successful career as an exhibiting artist and his work is included in some of the worlds most prestigious galleries. “Many years ago I read a book by John Berger Ways of Seeing. I wish I had read it many years before I did, it changed the way I looked at the world, how images are interpreted when seen individually, within a series and the meaning contained within them. Although this book may have only started my fascination with photographic and art theory, it had a profound effect on how I work today”
Our aim within this series of workshops is to encourage the photographer to look at how they create a narrative within the image, what tools we can use and what we might include within the image and probably more importantly what we leave out.
As well as Ian’s extensive experience as a photographer he has also been a lecturer at London Southbank University for the past 13 years and has taught across a wide range of programs and student abilities, he brings both his professional experience and teaching to our workshop program.

Our workshop program.Join renowned fine art photographer Ian Atkinson and award-winning documentary photographer Lewis Inman for a 5-day immersive photography workshop in one of five handpicked locations: Morocco, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and India. Photography is about storytelling, some photographers use a single image to convey their ideas and others use a series to build a narrative sequence, we will encourage you to explore your own vision and ideas throughout the workshops exploring both the individual and series approach. We have devised a series of project briefs which each day we will set one of these to help you get started. Initially we will ask a series of informal questions to all applicants as well as supplying a small portfolio of images, every participant is an integral part of the success of the workshops and we aim to ensure that we deliver the best possible experience for everyone. It’s all about you! We have a huge support group who help us deliver the highest quality adventures. We work with local guides and travel agencies to secure the best experience for our workshops. Ian and Lewis have worked extensively in the locations selected. Hand selecting hotels, guides and developing a network of people and locations to make you trip truly unforgettable. We also work with local NGO’s to make sure that our trips are ethically aware and we aim to support local artists and photographers through our young artist program, which your fees help support.
